Using an Organizing Partner

"I just want to avoid doing it!" "It's easier just to close the door and hide the mess"

Sound familiar? That's me, talking about my shed. Yes, I have my own dark secrets too.

It's one thing when I walk into a client's home: I immediately
see things objectively and work together with the client to accomplish their goal, but...

I have a really hard time to do the same thing for myself...
and by myself!

I've discovered that I need to have someone else help me to finish my organizing projects that I've put off (and I've found out the hard way that it can't be my husband helping me! His definition of organizing is "bring in the dumpster and just dump it all!").

I've been putting off cleaning out my shed for over 2 years and
finally I asked my friend's teenage boys to give me a hand to do it. It worked out great because they didn't shriek and go running off (like I did) when we found a dead mouse in one of the boxes, and then a live mouse that jumped out of another box right after that! They thought it was so cool.

So, it's OK to ask for help, in fact, you might find it's more productive and motivating to have someone work with you on your One Organizing Goal.

February: One Organizing Goal

We're into February already! Let's focus on One Organizing Goal for this month.

It can be a continuation of last month's One Organizing Goal. Don't worry if you weren't able to reach it yet. As I tell my students who take my Organizing Class, it may take several months before progress is made. Life gets in the way. We're very busy.

The main thing is... to keep focused on One Organizing Goal.

A hint from my coaching session with clients: Break it down into 5 minute chunks of time, and try to work on it daily.

And, it's ok to miss a day. Just pick up where you left off.

ASSIGNMENT: (3 minutes)
1. Post your One Organizing Goal for February in "Comments"
2. Check back during the month and keep us updated with how you're doing!

(P.S. If you need an extra boost on getting jump-started, feel free to contact me and I'll be glad to help)

Til next time...
